87 accord wiring short/park lights+dash

My 87 accord has a short somewhere that has caused the multi pin plug that plugs into fuse panel to short at the bottom left of the connector. Burn on connector and visible arc seen. I use this car every day and work 3rd shift so all my driving is at night. If I reach up and wiggle the connector that goes into the fuse panel, I get a couple of arcs then the parking lights and dash lights work until the next time I try to turn lights on:Dlol. My question is, there are 5 red wires w/ blue dot on them and one twice as thick solid white wire on the coonector going to what I assume is an internal relay in the fuse panel. Can I just cut the single red w/ blue dot that is burned at connector and just run that to battery with a inline fuse and toggle switch or what? I would just replace the entire fuse panel but it is directly behing the firewall support bar on the one corner. Can't get the fuse panel out off the mounting studs. I'm getting really frustrated.
Thanks.
