? on 90 accord strut
 

the other day i replaced a squeeky ball joint on driver side, while taking upper and lower ball joints apart and go through fork bolt off the strut came apart, is that mean its bad? i had a hard time installing through bold because the strut came apart and the spring was not compressed, i had to jack strut fork up a ways to put the through bolt on, it was not easy.

Did part 20/21 just fall down past part 10/12 after you removed bolt 25? Or did something happen with the top part of 20/21

Thanks PAhonda for replying, the parts on your diagram was not the issue it was the shock or damper unit inside the coil springs that came apart, I had to stick the shock rod back into the hole on the dust cover while jacking up the damper fork item 20-21 on your diagram to get the through bolt in. I am thinking the shock is broken and that is what I am trying to clarify. I am not a auto machanic, but I can take apart stuff and put it back, it's not hard it just takes time. I hope this makes more sense

Yea, really sounds like you have an issue. If the rod coming out of the strut just came out of the dust tube. You have a broken strut. If this is true, I would not drive the car until proper repairs are made. If you do have to replace the strut I would suggest "loaded struts" - these come with the spring and mount.

I will change it out, don't worry I know how to compress the spring to change the shock out.
The funny thing is the car rides good, no noise or anything since replacing ball joints.
I notice you drive a 66 Chevy I also drive a Chevy but a 67, the Honda is my girlfriends car.

One of the reasons for suggesting the loaded was you get the upper mount. I'm guessing something has broken in there if the top of the strut pulls out. So if you are going with just a strut, be sure to pick up a new mount.

Yea, the Chevelle doesn't get out that much. Spends its time in the garage. My Dad bought it new in August of 66 :) so I've got all of the paperwork and that.
