1996 2.2 accord a/c problem
HI THERE.MY A/C STOP COOLING.THERE WERE BAD ODORS INSIDE THE CABIN.WE ADD GAS , THERE WERENO LEAKS UNDER THE HOOD AREA. COMPRESSOR ,LINES ETC. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE UNDER THE DASH AREA. THE QUESTION IS HOW DO I KNOW IS THE EVAPORATOR?
DOES IT GET PLUGED OR COULD IT EXPLODE? CAN I JUST CLEAN IT? COULD IT BE THE EXPANSION VALVE.HOW DO I CHECK THIS ONE IS OK. THANKS IN ADVANCE

RE: 1996 2.2 accord a/c problem
Hello Robert,, First off i want to Welcome you to HAF...
You might have a leak inside the evap core , i have seen it many times ,, if you keep on losing freon and there is no other leak in the engine compartment than the evap is most likely it,,
Now there are many reasons why the a/c stops working.. first thing you need to do is hook a pressure gauge and see what they read,, if there is freon in the system it could be an electrical problem I need more info to properly diagnose your issue ..
has anyone put dye into the a/c system ??
if the evap is not leaking, you can remove it and properly clean it with soap and water and at the same time i would replace the upper and lower foam insulators ,spray some fridgy fresh or some lysol disinfectant , that should get rid of the bad odor
And NO it does not explode ,, you are safe ,,
so first things first.,, is there any freon ? if no, diagnose and repair leak,
if there is freon is there power at the compressor red wire ? engine runing . a/c on ? if not chk fuses, relay,
do that and let us know

RE: 1996 2.2 accord a/c problem
I would recommend you stop SHOUTING at the people trying to help you.
I would not add any type of 'sealer' to the A/C system it can cause other problems.
The most common leak in the evaporator case is the 'O' rings at the expansion valve fittings, so it is not needed to replace the entire evaporator.
