91' Accord Sports Light (S) Problem

Hey all! I have a problem, my sports light came on the other day and I'm not sure what's wrong. I jumped the service connecter and the sports light or D4 light did not give me an error code, the sports light was just solid. It seems to be in 3rd or 4th gear as it accelerates very slowly, I've tried resetting it by taking the fuse out but it came back. My car is a 91' Accord LX, I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Hmmmm, no code huh?
The 'S' button on the shifter is off?
Well try to reset by removing battery power [30 seconds] and then see if the trans shifts okay the first time thru before acting goofy again.
I've found that a bad TCU will act in this manner most of the time.

Hey hondadude, thanks for replying. I have tried resetting it but it came back. I've tried doing research but no real answer, I am starting to think it's the TCU also, would the TCU cause it to shift hard by any chance? When I bought the car back in May it shifted hard and I thought it was suppose to do that...not sure though.

The earlier models 90-97 accords shift under positive pressure, so many first time owners feel the shift difference.
It's not your usual GM MUSHY shift.
The design idea is that the clutch paks will last longer with the positive pressure shift, because that allows less wear/slippage on the friction discs.
Now if it slips and goes BANG into gear that is a problem.
I hate to say to replace a part that is expensive, yet it seems like the TCU is going to be the problem in your case.
Again, my experience has been that resetting by power removal. Then driving, the trans would shift okay the first time thru, then start malfunctioning again, after coming to a stop light, etc.
My only other suggestion would be to remove the shift solenoids, jumper power to them and be sure you hear a strong CLICK when power is applied.

The tranny controller is #1. It's under a mounting plate which in turn is under the carpeting in the passenger footwell.

Which OEM part number for the TCU

It seems have a bad TCU.which causes the S light to turn on. As suggested, the issue is fixed by a power removal but it reappears again after a few trips. There are 2 parts numbers 28100-PX0-823 and 28100-PX0-822. How do I know which part is for my 91 Accord EX 2dr L4 2.2L 2156CC F1 GAS N F22A1 ?
Thank you
