91 Honda Accord EX, Engine Reving issue

1991, Honda, Accord EX, 4-Cyl. 2.2 Liter, 187000...

This problem starts occuring after about 10 minutes from start of engine. Engine Idles at about 1500 RPM's until this happens.

For about a month now when the engine gets warm the RPM will go up to 2500 then drop to 1000 and then the throttle starts reving between those two RPM markings like it is not finished with the engine warming and wants to go back to 2500 RPM's(like a stuck choke??).
It will do this when idling at a stop light and will even pull the car if it is in 1st thru 3rd gear.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this without going to a mechanic?

TIA!
Jimmy

remove the top cover of the fast idle valve.. screw in the inner valve with a flat tip screwdriver ..

make sure you got planty of coolant. ,,, make sure accell cable is not too tight ..make sure the adjustment screw at throttle body is not backing out ...

yea desert is talking about the electronic air control valve the (EACV). this valve controls how much 'extra' air is thrown into the manifold, which is then read by the MAP sensor which chooses how much fuel needs to be thrown on the fire. when this sensor goes bad it will cause what your talking about. i didnt know it could be adjusted...but if desert says it can be then listen to him. the sensor is located on the intake manifold. its located at the side of the intake chamber or plunum, and is very easily accesible

your not talking about the sensor just to the right of the throttle body that points to the front of the car?

OK I did'nt see this until today but I found two things this morning and fixed one of them.
1. the PCV Valve was bad and I replaced that this morning.
2. I checked the codes on the check engine light and it told me (6 blinks) that the Coolant Temperature Sensor was having an issue. I pulled off the electrical sensor that plugs into the part that is attached to the engine (can you tell I am a Novice??) and cleaned them both with a soft bristle tooth brush.

I then pulled the fuse on the ECU for about 2 minutes and started the car. Seemed to idle fine for a bit until I took it on a test drive....it started reving again but less this time (between 800 rpm's and 2000 rpm's).

Thoughts?

hi Jimmydageek, Were you able to fix the problem re: idling. I am having the same exact problem except that mine rev up to 1500 rpm then goes down to about 500. I am going to bring it to the mechanic but i want to make sure i know what iam talking about when i speak with them. I would appreciate it i f you would reply. I also got 91 Accord lx with 171K on it. Thanks again
