92 Accord ex fuel economy
New spark plugs, new tires, new wires, new air filter....car running great. Just bought it, and installed all the new stuff mentioned. It is an automatic 4 door EX......so, Why in hell I am only getting 19 to 20 MPG on HWY and 17 to 19 in City, particulary on a car running so beautifuly?
PS. 165K miles Any help? |
RE: 92 Accord ex fuel economy
you need to replace old Oxygen sensors
that what mostly affect MPG ratio also - depends on what kind of fuel you're using in your car |
RE: 92 Accord ex fuel economy
I would also think about changeing those O2 sensors also like Evlampius was saying about...
They are important to change out. WheelBrokerAng:eek: |

Just did the oxigen sensor and a strong fuel injector cleaner... still 19 MPG... any ideas? How about the cat converter? Or maybe any particular sparkplugs? |

May be a brake problem. Are your pads on correctly? (not rubbing significantly while not braking)

RE: 92 Accord ex fuel economy

RE: 92 Accord ex fuel economy
1992 Honda Accord EX. I installed NGKs V-Power. By the way, brakes are ok. I read in the Internet that beginning with the 1990 model year, certain Hondas were equipped with an Electronic Load Detention (ELD) module which was designed to improve fuel economy by almost shutting off the alternator during light throttle and idle. If the module fails, the ECM loses a sensor and the vehicle may experience stalling, rough idle, or low / no alternator output specially at idle. I still can not get better than 19 MPG. Now with the alternator problem, I wonder if this module is the reason for all my problems (both fuel mileage and not charging in idle), or, does anyone knows something else that could help me?Have anyone heard this? What this thing looks like? Where is it? Does my 92 Accord has one? I am installing a new alternator today, by the way.

my 94 accord ex also had bad gas mileage problem. Turns out that my ignition timing was off and my catalytic converter was shot. I was doing 15 mpg in the city and after the timing adjustment and replacement of the catalytic converter, my mileage went up to 20 mpg. Hope that helps.

Are you sure you are getting Torque Converter lockup of the trans? The shift pressure cable might need adjustment.
read the other post ["honda shifting"] about the trans shift, the info applies to your car as well. ELD was a Civic feature |
the transmisson has nothing to do with gas mileage and neither does the alternator the alternator only job is to keep the battery charged while the car is running an to keep the battery from going dead
check your timing and your spark plugs if its what i think it is your misfiring in every cylinder, your gonna need a new CAT an on my recomendation flush your coolant, oil, an transmission oil,an add new coolant oil, and atf oil, and 4 1/2 quarts of 5w30. i got a 92 accord coupe an when i bought it my gas mileage was **** now im close to 30mpg highway, an 26 mpg n the street |
