93 honda not cranking

I have a 93 Honda accord se...it was running fine then one day wouldn't crank changed the battery plugs wires dist cap and rotor plus main relay it crunk once smoked backfired and died. Took it to a mechanic he changed the distributor the plugs and wires again took off and cleaned the exhaust system says its getting gas and fire will turn over but not crank. He has given up. What could it possibly be?

Different people use different terminology. When you turn the key to start the car, does the starter start spinning the engine? Or does nothing happen?

Occasionally, spark will be observed w/ a plug grounded to engine. However when under compression in cylinder, the spark is too weak to fire the spark plug. Try checking for spark w/ an inductive timing light hooked to any spark plug lead. If you don't get a flash on the timing light, no spark is occuring. Check this to be sure you're getting fire.

You should also check to make sure spark timing is ~ 15 deg BTDC. If mechanic installed your distributor backwards (unlikely but possible), engine will not run.

Check engine crankshaft to camshaft timing by turning engine to 0 TDC on crankshaft, pulling upper timing belt cover (valve cover must be lifted), and see if camshaft is aligned w/ TDC timing mark.

You should download a 90-93 manual to guide alignment of crankshaft and checking camshaft TDC marks.

Another good test is to turn keyswitch to On, and crack the fuel rail banjo bolt. You should get a strong spray of fuel (~40 psi pressur). If no spray or weak flow, the fuel pump is not working; main fuel relay or bad fuel pump.

You should also check engine cylinder compressions. Speck is 135-180 psi, w/ no more than 20 psi difference between cylinders.

If you have fuel, fire, compression, and engine timing the engine will run. One of those is missing.

good luck
