94 engine in 97 accord lx F22b2 HELP!!!!!!
 

so i have a 97 accord lx 5spd race car (circle track) with a f22b2 and the engine blew up so i bought a f22b2 from a junk yard out of a 94 dx. so i used everything from the 97 and just put the 94 engine in the car. i had to put the oil pump off the 97 engine on the 94 because i had to put the crank sensor on (on the 94 engine there was no way to mount the crank sensor because it was in the distributor). so anyway that all worked great and the car runs fine except it wont rev past 3000 rpms! i really have no idea whats causing this. i have heard that it could be in "limp mode" but no one seems to know exactly what causes it. ive tried resetting the ecu and even brought it to advanced auto parts to get it diagnosed but it didn't show us any error codes. i dont know what to do im open to any help.

I would find someone w/ an advanced scanner to get some of the available info from the ECM; timing advance, Long Term Fuel Trim, Short Term Fuel Trim, Coolant Temperature, primary O2 sensor trace, etc.

If it was in "limp home" mode, a code should be left (don't know this for fact, but seems likely). Since not, it must be something else. Time to look at all inputs for clues.

There have been a number of instances of poor engine performance found to be the result of weak O2 sensor, but apparently not bad enough to set a code.

i just realized... since it is just a race car i pull all the unnecessary fuses out of the fuse box so i don't have power running to places where it isn't vital for the car to run. i dont have the 7.5 amp fuse in the panel ( the one you pull to reset the ecu) could that be the reason why we arent getting any codes?

That fuse will allow the PCM to store codes.

Did you use timing gears on the crankshaft from the 94 or 97?

The 7.5A fuse powers the ECM. W/O this fuse it has to run in limp-home mode and can't drive the Check Engine Light. Suggest you consider a little extra weight and add one 7.5A fuse.

i kept the crank and cam gears for the timing belt from the 94 in the car...i just took the balancer belt gear from the 97 and put it on the 94 because there are marks that the crank sensor reads

the car ran fine without that fuse with the old engine but...i will definatly add that fuse and run it for a long enough time for codes to show up and get it re scanned
