94 ignition cylinder replacement
 

I'm replacing the ignition cylinder on my girlfriends 94 Accord. I am just replacing the cylinder, not the entire ignition assembly. I'm a little confused on how to actually get the cylinder out though. It looks like there is a cover that holds the cylinder in. This is the same metal cover you see when the column is fully assembled that peeks out of the plastic. Anyway, it looks like there are two small holes, one on both the front and back, that allow you to pull the cover off so I can remove the cylinder. It looks like they are the secret to removing the cover. Is this correct, or am I off base? Could someone please tell me how to remove this thing? Thanks in advance.

removing the steering column shroud; underneath there are screws, then you can drop off the lower part and lower the steering wheel to have enouh room for the top of the shroud to clear the speedo panel.
Then the actual key cylinder was installed with "breakaway" bolts.
the cylinder is held on with a bracket that collars around the steering column proper.
The breakaway bolts are seen from the top as rounded 'domes'; you can use a small chisel to get them to start backing out.
The service manual calls out to use left hand drill bit to remove them, but there isn't a lot of room.

Thanks, but thats not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the cylinder only, not the entire assembly. The breakaway bolts hold the assembly to the column. I'm looking for a way to remove the cylinder from the piece you are talking about.

I don't know exactly what part you are talking about.

I think he's talking about dismantling the part called "switch body", maybe to re-key the cylinder.
Normally, a locksmith can pull out the rotating lock cylinder from the body, & interchange the pins. You would do this to take a new lock cylinder & make it work with your old key.

There's different ways they come apart, sometimes you insert a small drift pin into a hole somewhere while the key is inserted. But I've never taken a Honda one apart, so I don't know...

Yes, exactly. I'm trying to rekey the switch body with a new cylinder.

I'm trying to remove the piece sitting in the foreground of the attached picture. Its the metal cover that indicates the position the key is in.
