Default 95 4 cylinder & timing belt 180,000 miles

Hi, well coming up on 180,000 miles and the timing belt will need to be replaced soon. Will be getting it done at the dealer and was curious, since this is a big job is there anything else that can be done while they have it all apart to make it run better?

Just make sure they do the seals, water pump... Make it run better? I guess have them do the plugs, maybe the cap/rotor/wires? That will be a seperate charge though, because it really has nothing to do with the belts. It will help it run smoother.

Damon, not to scare you,but they are going to charge you BIG time.If you are able to afford it,it should be done correctly. But dont be suprised when the Bill is very high.I hope they dont try and sell you stuff ya stuff you dont need.

Get the quote first before dropping off.

I usually replace the T-belt tensioner bearing at the second belt change, as well as the shaft seals, including the 'oil pump' seal.

The items related to the timing belt job that I would suggest are water pump, crank, cam and balance shaft seals, the tensioner bearing, accessory belts and the seals for the timing belt covers.

I don't know who did mine before I bought it, but when I bought the car I could hear the whine and figured it was the alt making the noise. Nope. I went to Honda to have them let me know what it was and how much to do it.... Well I think $860+ tax and shop fees for the 2 belts, 2 pullies, and valve cover gasket is NUTS... THEN if I had them do the whole job with all the parts(seals, etc.) $1260 +++. NO WAY. I bought all the parts except water pump because it has a new Honda pump in it, all the parts were $200, and it took me 7 hours... It was the pullies for sure, if you shook them you can feel the play in them. Why would someone not just yank and replace them? The car only has 71,600 miles on it, so maybe they figured they were still ok???? I thought it was going to be a difficult job, but it was cake. I have done belts on VW's before but none with balance belts. It did have the front balance shaft retainer and new seal in it already.

Saved myself $700-$1000 easily by doing it, and at 150K I will do it again.

$200.00 in parts, man o man, have no garage and should start on something smaller. Thats something you build up to, rather have the pro's do it!

Yes it is not a novice job, but not really hard at all to do. I have done just about everything on cars so I was not afraid to do it, besides I didn't have $1200 the throw at Honda. I have the tools and knew I could do it, I was going to go the lazy route till they told me the cost.
