95 accord no start

i have a 95 accord with an intermittent no start condition. with the key on, the fuel pump does not prime. But... when it check it with a test light, the test light lights up dim, then the pump turns on. sometimes that fixes it for a few days, other times nothing. i belive the ecm is bad. any suggestions?

Most frequent cause for loss of fuel delivery w/ fuel pump is failure of the Main Fuel Relay (MFR). Relay develops faults on the circuit board due to high operating temp and solder jts fail. Some repair the circuit board w/ cleaning/resoldering, but most simply replace the MFR.

Problem can also be a sticking fuel pump. If fuel pump will start up by repeated on/off/on/off... of the keyswitch, this may be the problem rather than MFR. It is necessary to confirm 12V to fuel pump at connector in trunk when keyswitch is turned to On and no fuel pump. I had this problem and rigged a tell-tale light from trunk to driver's seat where I could see light every time I turned keyswitch to On. After several occasions of light on and no fuel pump, I replaced the fuel pump to solve the problem.

good luck

i considered the pump and the relay, but why does the the pump turn on when i probe the relay connector with a test light then turn off when i take the light away

Perhaps you are supplying 12v through the test light to fuel pump. If you are supplying ground through test light to fuel pump circuit at the connector to check for voltage, then voltage may be weak (poor MFR connection?).

Your result would suggest that MFR fault is more likely than fuel pump, but I would perform some checks to be sure 12V is missing or low voltage from the fuel pump supply wire in the trunk when keyswitch is first turned to On (remember it only stays on 2-3 secs, the MFR opens).

Suggest also checking the fuel pump ground in the trunk for security and clean connection.

good lcuk

after checking the fourm. i jumped the connector behind the glove box, found trans code 14. why would a trans code cause an inop fuel pump

No, but this code is sometimes associated w/ faulty TCM or ECM. It could also be a wiring fault in Brn/Wht wire between pin D16 (TCM) and ECM.

good luck
