Default 95 engine replacement?

I need to replace the motor in my sons 95 Accord. It’s a non vtec 2.2 with auto trans. (I think). Will all the Gen 5 non vtec motors drop in (plug and play)? Where are the motor ID codes located? I found a motor from a 97 and a 94, I just wanted to be sure they would work. Do I need to change anything besides the fly wheel if the new motor had a manual trans.. I have been searching for answers and learning a lot. Thanks to All

The 94 would work better. The 97 is OBD-2 so it has a different set of sensors on the engine.

To use the 97 engine, you can do 2 different methods.
- Get the 97 computer and the 97 wiring harness from the car. Lots of work.
- Swap the sensors from your 95 engine over to the 97, basically turning the 97 engine into a "95".

Engine number plate is located on the block, about mid-elevation, just alongside the split between engine & transmission. Flat machined surface, not a "separate" plate, with numbers stamped on it.
First line is F22B1 or whatever type it is.
Second line is the block serial #.

All you would need to do to use an engine that was a manual is swap the flywheel for the flex plate from the old engine(make sure to use the flex plate bolts and not the flywheel bolts).

You want a F22B2 engine, since your car originally had a F22B2 engine.

The 94/95 f22b2 engines are identical. For the 96/97 f22b2 engine, you would use the distributor from a 94/95 accord. That is the only thing you would need to swap.

That's Great, Thanks for the info. Is it best to pull the motor and trans together? I do have a car lift and engine lift. Thanks again for the fast replys. I thank I'm going to look for an Accord wagon for myself (new toy). Time to park the Suburban (Gas going up again).

There are some ericthecarguy videos on installing motors that you may want to watch. It would probably be easier to pull the engine and transmission together. You may want to change the timing belt while the engine is out of the car.

FYI: If you get a 96/97 engine, there will be an electrical connector coming from under the timing belt cover that will not plug into anything. That is ok, because the 94/95 distributor has those two sensors. The 96/97 moved the two sensors to under the timing belt cover.

Maybe this question's been answered, but I may have missed it. I have the 1994 Accord EX with the 2.2 Vtech engine, and I want to see if I can swap it with a 95 or 96 non-Vtech engine. Mine blew the head gasket and warped the head, looking to replace it.
