95LX, roaring noise from engine
It is a 95LX, 123K miles.
There is a roaring noise, much like a diesel motor (truck) when I press the gas pedal. The noise quietens down when the car reaches a steady speed, As soon as I touch the gas-pedal the noise returns. No MIL. No much of a botheration either. Actually it is nice to hear the noise when I press the gas pedal. I just want to know what it is about... Hope nothing serious. Thanks Gopal |
RE: 95LX, roaring noise from engine
Exhaust leak? If so, all it's gonna do is get worse until suddenly it gets REAL loud.

RE: 95LX, roaring noise from engine
Lol... that would be fun...!!
But, would an exhaust leak ramp up and down with the pressing/release of gas-pedal? I am hoping this isn't a serious issue that I am neglecting... |
RE: 95LX, roaring noise from engine
Yes, an exhaust leak would certainly get loud & soft with the gas pedal. It's not super serious, but it can become serious if you ignore it forever. Eventually the pipe will break thru & then stuff can even begin dragging on the ground.
With the engine idling, have someone wad up an old rag against the tailpipe while you listen around the engine. This makes more pressure in the exhaust pipe & the leak gets louder. That'll help you locate the leak. Or else it'll show that it's not a leak so you can look for another reason for the noise. |
RE: 95LX, roaring noise from engine
Thanks! I'll do that this weekend...
Hopefully it is just the exhaust. |

i love when late 90's civic b pipes break at highway speeds at the resonator and hit the ground lifting the car momentarily, always fun to hear about that... [8D]

ORIGINAL: HondatechAV6 i love when late 90's civic b pipes break at highway speeds at the resonator and hit the ground lifting the car momentarily, always fun to hear about that... [8D] here... well below freezing in TX. |
RE: 95LX, roaring noise from engine
That's what'll happen if you ignore it forever. It'll getquite loud before the pipe actually breaks free. Don't wait too long.
At least find the noise quickly so you can see whether it's broken 10% around the pipe, or 40%, or 80% ??? Once it gets to 20%or so the crack growsfaster. |
