97 accord ex shifting issues

Recently bought a 97 accord ex and was told clutch was bad. Buddy picked it up and we started working on it. When we went to push it off trailer it was stuck in fifth gear. This seemed odd to me but we proceeded. Tore it all down and installed a new clutch kit and slave cylinder. Bled clutch properly. Started it up and everything was fine. But car s won't shift into any gears. And when in neutral ad let clutch out it behaves like it is in second. Never had such a problem and any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Also be noted I did check fluid in transmission and clutch seems to be operating normal. Just doesn't wanna shift properly is my only guess.

Did you mean you tore down the transmission? Or did you mean you removed the transmission & replaced the clutch.

If you tore down the transmission, how were the synchro-hubs? How about the baulk rings being seized onto the cones of their hubs?

What about the selector shafts that move the shift forks? There's some kind of balls & pins that push into notches in those shafts, to prevent more than one gear from being engaged at the same time. That stuff all OK?

I did a clutch kit and slave cylinder. Put tranny back on to no avail. I have never messed with the cable shifters before and jut put new cotter keys in when assembling them. Not sure what you are describing to look for. When trying to accelerate it acts as if car has brakes on. Front end raises up but car won't move. Both hubs are free and roll fine. I moved car while tranny was out.

Did find a local cl ad in Cleveland with tranny for 125. May pick that up Friday. But cable issues have me concerned now.

No, what I'm describing is inside the transmission. Not the cables at all. When you said you "tore it down" I thought you meant that you dismantled the transmission itself.

Certainly inspect the cable shifter anyway, to make sure the problem isn't there. That's external to the transmission so you can probably fix it if you see what's broke.
