97 Accord LX - Back Floorboards Wet After Rain - Common Points for Leaks?
 

Hello all;

My mother has a 4-door 1997 Accord LX that gets standing water in the back floorboards whenever it rains. My wife and I previously owned the car and bought it new from the dealer, and we never had any issues with leaks whatsoever. The car has never been in an accident.

Does anyone know if there's a common issue for this model to leak like this, and where the common point of entry for the water would be??

Just an obvious suggestion...Check the door seals all around to be sure they are in place and in good order...Also check all window seals for cracks and tears. I can't imagine the floorpan is rusted through, but that may be an issue to look for as well.
Do you live in an area with lots of snow/road salt used ??

Thanks for replying. I'll check all of the door and window seals again next time I visit her. We both live in Tennessee, so we don't get alot of snow and correspondingly a lot of salt. I really don't suspect the floorboards, as this problem happens with her car parked in the apartment complex parking lot.

You might want to remove the back seat to see if there is water under the seat. Look in the trunk as well for signs of water.

Inspect seals that are easily accessible.

You may want to have someone in the car while an assistant puts a hose on different sections of the car to begin tracking down the source. It sounds like a lot of water is getting into the car.
