98 3.0L/AT Maintenance Light will not STAY reset. Not CEL. Maintenance.

Hi Accord owners, I'm working on a 99 Accord with a 3L and auto trans. The maintenance light is lit. I'm not an idiot, I follow the procedure to reset, and it resets - Until you take your finger off the Trip/Odometer button, at which point it immediately relights. As this thing is mileage based, I have no idea what could be causing this. I checked TSBs and couldn't find anything, so now I'm appealing to the accord gods to have mercy on me. Anyone?

You continued to hold the reset button while it flashes & continued to hold it until it goes out before releasing the button?

is the door closed when you try to reset it ??,if not close the doors and retry it

Really? I probably always had the door closed when I did that, but I never realized it matters.

Yep. You can hold the button down forever, and it will stay off. You let off the button, it lights immediately.

Just thought I'd come back and say, DesertHonda was spot on. Light won't reset with door open. Closed door, reset perfectly. What a silly schematic that thing must use. Thanks Again.

Yeah, SILLY. Thanks for letting us know - I never realized that the door had to be closed.
