98 Accord Brake Light - ABS Issue

Here is the problem. ABS light on, no brake lights, & shifter stuck in park. This problem tends to occur after the car has been driven a while & warmed up and then stopped & set for a few minutes. It doesn't happen when the car is cold. I have already replaced the brake light switch twice, the last time with a Honda switch. Anyone experienced this problem before & resolved it?

You need a wiring diagram to identify fuses and wires. If you don't have a manual check Autozone online repair manuals for guidance.

I would first check under-dash fuses and make sure they are good. One for brake lights (#30-20A) and one for shift lock solenoid (#1-10A). My fuse numbers and wire colors are from a 94 Accord manual. Yours could be different.

If fuses are OK, check the brake pedal switch for power to and leaving the switch. First check that incoming power wire (wht/yel) has 12V. If yes, you should see 12V on departing wire (Grn/Wht) when the brake pedal is pressed. If you don't see 12v, then switch, switch connector or wire at switch is broken somehow.

If you have 12V out of brake pedal switch, then check bulb sockets in trunk for 12V w/ brake pedal pressed. If you don't have 12V, then there may be a fault in the brake light failure sensor or damaged wiring to trunk brake circuit. However, this sensor should not disable the shift lock solenoid which gets it's signal to enable shifting (solenoid on) from brake light 12V grn/wht wire.

good luck
