98 accord dx stalling while driving

Hello everyone, i’ve been having a stalling issue with my car for the past few weeks in my 98 accord dx, 4 cylinder 5 speed manual. i’ve read almost every thread on this forum and have had no luck finding what i need.

this all started a little after i took out my recently replaced o2 sensor to take out the heat shield and i’m unsure if it’s related.

the car will stall at idle or while driving on the highway or in the city, once it does stall sometimes it will start right up and other times ill be stranded for half an hour before it decides to start again.

from the research i’ve seen it seems like there is three main things to cause this issue. main relay, fuel pump, and ignition switch. i went ahead and ordered a new ignition switch and installed it today and that did nothing for me. i hear my fuel pump prime even when the car doesn’t want to start. i also hear the main relay click and my check engine light tests when the key is in the on position. there is no check engine lights or stored codes. the car idles and runs perfectly other than the stalling.

those things lead me to believe it isn’t any of the big three but of course i may be wrong. should i throw a fuel pump and main relay in anyway? any help is appreciated.

By your description would have guessed it was the ignition switch. Had similar symptoms. Maybe google "Honda Accord Fuel Pressure Testing". Verify whether or not there is fuel delivery to the engine. There are several videos on Youtube

Since you have stalling issues after doing the heat shield, what exactly did you? Just pull the heat shield and reinstall the original sensor?

I wouldn't replace any more parts until you do more diagnostics. It doesn't sound like a fuel pump problem.

yes all i did was remove my oxygen sensor, remove heat shield and reinstall the oxygen sensor. after checking the sensor again i noticed it was hand tight and the threads seem to be slightly stripped. i retightened the sensor and the problem persists.
