98 Accord V6: code P0401
Hi
Got my engine check light on with code P0401 (EGR low emission). I researched and found it to be a known issue for this type of car. Can someone pls answer the following questions: 1. What harm could it do to my car if this is not taken care off? (I live in SC, so I don't have to pass a emission check) 2. Can someone share the service manual meant for this issue? 3. How can I fix it by myself? -- Anas |
The EGR port is likely clogged. It can cause a slight stumble in the engine.
The repair is to remove off the intake manifold and clean out the blockage. Google 99-085 honda service bulletin The first link shows the procedure. The pdf shows how to take off the intake manifold and how to install the kit. You can get away with just cleaning out the passage with a tube brush or using the 8mm bit in the instructions with carb cleaner, then reassemble. |

Thanks for your concern.
Honda won't sell the kit indicated in the service bulletin. So, I cleaned the EGR port with a drill bit and carbon cleaner. But I cracked the air intake tube which goes to the throttle body :(. The crack looks like this picturehttp://picasaweb.google.com/anas.eee...83230021202498 http://picasaweb.google.com/anas.eee...83230021202498http://picasaweb.google.com/anas.eee...83230021202498. How can I repair this. can a replacement part be purchased for this? from where and how much is the price? what is it's function? |
