99 Accord 4dr 4cyl trouble starting

I have a 99 Honda Accord that has trouble starting the on 1st try. Sometimes it takes as many a 7 tries before it starts. It will start eventually but takes a number of tries to get it started. Any idea's. It runs very well after is it starts up.

Thanks,
engtaz

When you turn the key to start, does the starter rotate the engine?

it tries to start then shuts off immediately.

That response is ambiguous. Is the starter doing what it is normally does when you turn the key to start the car?

Yes starter is working fine each time, just the same way as it does when it does start. It usually harder to get started when it's hot, don't know if that info helps.

Just wanted to verify the starter is working, because that would be a different diagnosis.

When you first turn the key to the II position and do not try to start the car, listen carefully for the fuel pump to turn on while the check engine light is turned on for the 2 second bulb check. The pump makes a faint whirling/buzzing sound from the back seat, so turn off any sources of sound in the car (radio, blower, etc..) and listen carefully. Let us know if the fuel pump turns on when the car is not starting.

Also, when you turn the key to the start positin, slowly turn the key back to the II position and see if the car runs once the starter disengages.

Another test is when the car is running, try shaking the key and see if the car stalls out.

The new ignition switch fixed a bunch of problems.
Thanks again
