99 Accord Electric Load Detector issue
 

Hey guys, I got a 99 Accord LX and got a check engine light for an P1298 Electric Load detector and basically there will be no power to any electrical systems but my battery and alternator is fine and sometimes while im driving i press on the brake and my radio goes out but once i let go it comes back on. So i researched it but i see that its mostly for a civic not an accord. Plus i went to a honda dealer and not even they know what it is, also its not in the cars design diagram. Right now everything is fine but i have been scratching my head for weeks and dont know what to do can anyone help me.

I think KHA has a write up in the audio/visual section.....to repair, most have to replace the under hood fuse panel.

:) I knew I saw that before, Thank you my friend....I should have phrased my answer differently......there IS a bypass, OTHERS replace the fuse panel. I'm still trying go get my head on right - its hard, sorry.

no problem. I didn't take time to think about the actual problem and if the ELD is even to blame.

the reason many replace the fuse panel is because you cannot buy the ELD alone - it is part of the fuse panel purchase.

but a bypass is an alternate method. my bypass make sense when you have a working ELD. but an easier method is just to insert a resistor between the green/red and black ELD wires to assign a fixed voltage drop to keep the alt turned on. if the plug is accessible, you can do this at the plug and just leave it disconnected from the ELD. like this:

I'm having issues with the lights flickering on my '01 Accord V6. I would like to use a fixed resistor to bypass the ELD, like in your photo above (trying to determine if it's the alternator or the ELD...alternator is an OEM Honda reman purchased from a dealer with 40k miles on it).

What resistance would work well for normal driving (mostly interstate, and headlights on...no aftermarket mods of any sort)? I have a boatload of 1/4 watt 10% resistors of various sizes laying around. I have some 1/2 watt too, but I assume 1/4 watt will suffice.

If you could be so kind to give me a range of resistance, I will see if I have something that will work. Note per your thread on the bypass it looks like 820 ohm is a potential choice for me to use ??? But maybe this is for use with a high-end sound system, which I don't have. Best I can tell from the picture it looks like two 1/4 watt in parallel....
