Changing the timing belts is a big job, so I guess the question is what kind of big maintenance jobs have you done in the past?

Hmmm I have not done anything huge. The most complicated thing I have probably done is a brake job on disk brakes.

I probably wouldn't tackle the timing belt job. When I go back to the dealer i'll see if he had that done with the tune up job he said was done on it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he did.

Is there any way to check if a timing belt job was done?

The timing belt is covered with plastic covers, it's not the external belt you can see. If you remove the upper timing covers you might see evidence of age, but you might not. Seems like a 2-month-old belt looks a lot like a 7-year-old belt.

Certainly you can see evidence of a belt that's just about to break. Cracks around the teeth, or maybe excessive black rubber dust inside that cover, but that's not always reliable. It might look OK a month before it breaks.

As part of my complete inspection this weekend I will be sure to at least look at the belt if the dealer can not provide any paperwork that it has been changed recently. Good advice and thanks!
