99 Accord LX Occasionally Stallling

99 Accord LX occasionally stalling. It has only stalled within five minutes of starting it up. If I get past five minutes it hasn't stalled. It has only stalled about once a week, sometimes two. It always has started back up within 30 seconds of stalling.

When it stall all lights turn on the dash and then go out.

Cap and rotor were replaced and I thought that solved it, but then it stalled a week later.

Anyone had a similar problem?

Start the car, then shake the key. Does this cause the car to stall out?

Just went and tested it out and it didn't stall.

I can almost guarantee it is your ignition switch. I have the same car and had the same problem. It was a recall item on many cars of that year and mine was fixed for free. Unfortunately, my issue has returned in spades.

Jhois - yes the test PA had you do is one way of checking this. Just becasue it didn't stall does not mean the switch is good.

To confirm you will have to do some testing when it does die.

I had the same problem on my Accord. I use to drive it and all the lights would turn on and stall out. It will turn on when I crank it again. The problem was the ignition switch the electrical part. I wiggled the key in the cylinder and it will turn off.

Ok had it turn off while driving today. Is the ignition switch possible to replace yourself or is it dealer specific? The autoshops I had it taken to both gave different answers such as the distributor or wires.

It's actually really easy. You need to remove the cover around the ignition - 4 screws underneath. You'll need to drop the lower panel under the wheel as well. The ignition switch is on the door side and plugs into a panel under the dash on the left side in front of the door. You can do it in about 40 minutes. This was a recall item for some VIN numbers, so check that out as well.
