'99 Accord - Transmission Changed / Pinging Engine
 

I just had my transmission rebuilt at a transmission shop as it had gear shifting problems. I picked up the car last week and trans is working nicely. However, the engine seems to be making a pinging noise. I am 100% sure that it did not ping prior to having the transmission repaired. Could there be a link with the transmission and the engine that could casue this pinging sound?

did they degrease the engine? sometimes if a shop is careless they will get water in a spark plug tube and that will make that cylinder just about not run at all. there may be a timing problem but there is no reason to do anything to the distributor when taking off the tranny. are there any trouble codes? one piece of advice though......i dont think you should take it back to that shop though. they obviously didnt do something right

I do not have a check engine light for the pinging problem. The transmission repair shop had to get rid of the transmission fault codes on the Accord's computer. In doing so, maybe they caused a problem with the computer's timing schedule? I checked all hose connections and all seems fine!

Hi Larry..

Take a hammer and while your car is running ...tap on the block of the engine and see if it stumbles, if it does e-mail me and let me know...

if that was the problem, do you think the check engine light would come on?
