AC won't take freon
 

I have a 95 Accord EX which I purchased at a police auction. This was a salvage car and while the car seems to run fine, it has numerous problems, one being the AC doesn't blow cold air. When I tried to put some freon in, it would not take it in. I thought I had a bad can of freon so I got another can, but the same thing happened. The AC blows hot air and the heater seems to work. Someone told me, it could be a bad valve. Any suggestions on what this could be and how much I need to spend to fix my AC?

how did you try to add freon ??? car running? off? suction line ? discharge line ??

I bought a can at AutoZone with the hose and guage attached and attempted to put it in with the car running and the AC on following the direction on the can. If it's a bad valve or plugged up line, is that a fairly inexpensive fix? If it blows out hot air, does that mean my compressor is ok?

What pressure did the gauge read? Does the compressor clutch engage? Without knowing if the system is already full on Freon, I wouldn’t recommend adding. You will not get cool air if the blend door doesn’t close also. I am not familiar with the Freon that comes with the gauge. On my 134 gauges you have to tighten the valve to open the system and if not you will not have a gauge reading or be able to charge it. It uses a quick disconnect to attach to the vehicle lines then a flat knob on top to access the system unlike the old R12 system.

Took it to a mechanic and he figured out it was a bad AC fan clutch relay. He told me with the relay it would run around 150 to fix, so I went and got a relay at AutoZone for 30 and he would up fixing it for 60 with a can of freon...not bad, I'll definitely be going back to him. Altogether, it cost me 90 bucks to fix, and now I can finally sit in AC when I'm parked on the freeway in LA. Thanks to everyone who replied.
