Accord transmissions
Hi all, I am new to this forum, but am a member of the Odyssey forum. I currently own a '03 Odyssey which had transmission failure warnings when I purchased. I protected myself by buying certified, making sure my van had the oil jet recall performed and had low milage.
So now I am looking at 2.3L 1998 Accords and transmission problems are also being discussed again. Most complaints online are only a small segment of all the Accords on the road, so I want to find out really how bad the problem is? What can I do with a ten year old car to protect myself? What should be my maximum milage? This car will be mostly a teenager car and I would like to get a long life out of it. Finially, I am also looking at the Camry, since in my area the Accords are a little more expensive then I was hoping to spend. I would preffer the Accord, but anybody aware of problems withthe Camry? |
RE: Accord transmissions
Make the teen learn how to drive a stick and get him/her that! Around here we generally advise people to stay as far away from 6th gen (98-02) automatic trannys, they tend to go out randomly at any mileage.

RE: Accord transmissions
What about the 5th generation automatic? I like this style better, but their crash tests are not as good as the 6th generation. Also would have to get an EX to be comperable to the 6th generation car.

RE: Accord transmissions
5th gen autos if well maintained usually last the life of the car.

RE: Accord transmissions
Yeah, no beating around the bush --- we don't really advise getting the 6th gen (98-02) Accords with Auto-Trans. If it's pretty cheap, like maybe 2k lower than KBB/Edmunds (not likely) then sure go ahead - when it dies you can afford the tranny or buy another ride.
