Alarm sensativity

I have a 1998 Honda Accord ex sedan, 2.3 liter vtec with 133 tho miles on it. Its still new to us, as I purchased it in Feb of this year. We have a recurring problem with the alarm going off, for no apparent reason. Is there a way for me to adjust the sensitivity of this alarm system? I hate to just deactivate it, as my kids will be driving it mostly, and may benefit from having it alarmed at times.

I don't know what kind of alarm is installed on your car. If you look under the driver's side of the dash you should see wiring that is out of place. Follow that to the control unit (should be on driver's side or maybe near center of dash. Let us know what is labeled on the control unit.

One thing you should do is disconnect the battery, clean all ends of both battery cables with sandpaper or a wire brush, then reattach. Then have the battery tested at a parts store. A marginal battery can change voltage and trigger the alarm.

X2, 98% of the time this is the issue.

If everything PA said checks out and it is a factory alarm system....look at the switch on the hood latch. These get dirty.......but again, most of the time the issue is a bad battery or poor connection.
