ALternative to turning off CEL

Hey guys, I recently had to gut out my catalytic converter because it was rattling and I can't afford a new one right now. Of course the CEL came on, so my question is:

Is there any way of turning off CEL other than a scanner or disconnecting the battery?,(ie: Jumping two wires)

Riding around with a CEL can be annoying.

Thanks in advance.

Pointless... You can turn off the CEL, but it'll just turn itself right back on as soon as it figures out you haven't really fixed the problem.

You can have a local shop weld in an o2 cheater that makes it so the o2 sensor is out of the direct flow of exhaust gas. My local shop did this for less than $15 if i remember correctly.

Or if you wanted the bulb for the CEL is really easy to take out.

Of course neither one of these options is legal but i'm sure your car is a track only car ;-)

Can you show me pictures or a diagram of what the "cheater" is? Irritates me having the light on, i already know i have to replace my cat so yeah. Or if you want send me a message or even a picture of it.

Basically just extends the bung so the o2 sensor is an inch or two out of the flow of exhaust gas.

You could probably buy something on ebay that just extends it. I just had a test pipe made and had one welded in when I did it.

Do you think those things would screw into my cat? Yesterday when I read your post I looked it up on google images and found a similar post and they were selling it on ebay for $10 plus $5 shipping PLUS the possibly 3 week shipping. Would I be able to buy these parts at an Auto parts store?

Did they actually keep the CEL from coming on for no cat?
