Alternator/Electrical

Ive got a 1995 Honda Accord EX with 260K on it and Im having some problems with the gauges. Was driving fine when the "D4" started flashing then the speedometer went crazy (up and down etc). While it was freaking out the odometer just stopped turning. Then the check engine light came on. First thought was the alternator but it was late at night and had to travel early the next morning so I turned it off, turned it back on and it was fine....for about 20 minutes then the same thing again. Does anyone have any idea whether it should be the alternator? Or tranny? Any suggestions would be great as Im scratching my head...lol.

RE: Alternator/Electrical

Sounds like the VSS could be acting up? (Vehicle Speed Sensor) That would explain why the speedometer is going crazy and perhaps why the odometer isn't working. This is simply an educated guess, but I'm certain someone will be along soon to clarify.

Edit: Oh, and I believe it is located on top of your transmission, held down by a single bolt.

"get the electrical portion from the dealer"

Are you saying to let them connect it to see if the codes are the same? Or get the part from the dealer?

Thanks for the link. That is an incredible site...
