Anybody pulling a trailer?
 

I have a 2005 Accord V6 Automatic 4 door. I read the manual and it says I have a 1000lb towing capacity. I went to a few businesses that sell small trailers and although they weighed between 400 and 500 lbs one dealer told me that the towing capacity vs. weight was not the issue. One trailer had a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of 2,200lbs and that even though my car can tow this trailer along with 400lbs of cargo it was outside my rating.

Another dealer was not so picky.

I find trailer hitches and lighting packages made for the Accord all over the internet so I'm certainly not the first to try this.

Logically it would seem that if my car has the ability to tow 1000lbs (based on my owner's manual) then as long as my trailer+load is < 1000 then I'm not overly stressing my car and would be safe.

I plan to use this trailer for general house/yardwork. Occassionally hauling yard wast to our township's composting center, oversized trash to recycle center, small loads of firewood or mulch. Probably no more than 10 miles at speeds up to 45mph.

Has anybody here gone through this and have any advice.

I think if your trailer and load is 1000lbs or less you should be fine, but try not to "fast start", just take it easy so you don't burn up the tranny.

I have a 2007 4 cly SE that I routinely tow a Kendon Motorcycle trailer with a Suzuki DRZ 400s loaded. The total weight is only 750 or so but I have pulled it over many high passes in Colorado and New Mexico with no problems. I just run it easy and use D3 on big grades. I keep the speed under 70 and let the speed bleed off further on long grades.
