blowby/worn rings??

I bought a 92 Accird LX from an old couple last year. It had 99k on it, now it has 113k. The car still looks new!! was garaged and babied. All maintenance, right down to tire rotation was done on time and the reciepts are in the glove box. New parts include a muffler, trans computer battery brakes and tires. Runs great. took it to my buddy b/c the idle is a little rough sometimes, like its idling 100-200 rpms lower than it should. It IS leaking oil out of the valve cover gasket. not much. About a half quart between changes. We started the car without the oil fil cap on and there was a fair amount of air blowing out of it. he said that is due to EXCESSIVE ring wear. air getting past the rings or something. and its pushing oil out of the valve cover gasket....I just cant believe this, considering how well it has been taken care of! Can anyone shed some light on this?

honestly im no mechanic. im pretty sure my car does the same thing. infact the same thing will happen if you take the pcv valve off. I have heard that its normal for our engines. you could always do a compression test to make sure. Change the valve cover gasket and everything should be fine. if youre rings were worn on a honda motor that young id be surprised, especially since its well taken care of.

The oil filler cap on a Honda doesn’t have a baffle and if you take the cap off while running the oil under pressure to lubricate the valve train will come out. That is what you want to see for a normal running Honda Accord. Most cars don’t have a baffle anymore. If the valve cover gasket leaks it is an easy job. Oil getting past the rings shows up in the air cleaner box. Half a quart between oil changes is normal according to Honda normal is one quart per 1000. On the idle if you have checked the common things such as state of tune you may want to check the EGR and the port (they can clog with carbon)that is sits on. Sounds like you have a great car.
