brake lights

Have a strange problem with our 2002 Accord. Suddenly when turning on lights (parking or running) the brake lights come on. The brake lamp light also luminates. Checked and replaced all lamps and inspected all sockets. Nothing found. Brake lights work fine without lights turned on but turn them on and brake lights stay lit. Any ideas what to check. Also by turning light switch on it aactivates transmission release.

Did you check the ground connections for those lamp sockets?

The HAF help area is for questions about how the website works, not car questions. I'm moving this over to General Tech where more people will see it.

Was any work done to the car before this happened?

Have not done anything since transmission was replaced last spring.

So answer is no.

Car has been in storage.

Most of the lights back there are grounded through G-601 which is a bunch of wires connected to a bolt near the left-rear lamp housing. If part of that is loose or corroded, it can cause things like that to happen in circuits that are "supposed to be" unrelated.

PS... if it's been in storage, you might have to look for damage from rodents chewing the insulation from wires?

Ok sounds possible I will check the grounds. Thanks

Found the problem. A pin in the right rear turn/brake bulb socket broke off inside the back half of the two piece socket and shorted out to the other pins. Don't know how this happened since this part ususally doesn't comes off when changing lamps.
