Brake Valve Replacement
Hello!!
My 96 accord lx brake purportioning valve needs to be replaced. They are pretty pricey, so I may consider a junkyard for a replacement. Nonetheless, since this requires the master cylinder to be removed, should I have that replaced as well? Are there any other components that I should consider replacing during this repair? Thanks in advance!! |
Seems like corrosion would be the big factor in failure, so choose a donor car with clean-ish brake lines or a car that's new to the yard & hasn't had the brake system opened up to the elements.
I'm tempted to say the same thing about the master cylinder, if you're looking at a junkyard for that too. Might be better off not replacing it unless it's having any problems. |
It's the original valve, so I am confident it has been pretty beat up! Thanks for the recommendation. Now I just have to figure out how to take it off. Cant seems to find a video that actually shows the process... smh.
Thanks again and happy holidays!!!! |
I've only got a 1998-2002 shop manual & that doesn't have a "procedure" for taking out the proportioning valve. Only shows the tightening torque for the line fittings (11 lb*ft). I guess you just have to figure out what stuff has to be removed in order to get wrenches onto the valve fittings. Proably you need a helper with long skinny arms & 5 elbows on each arm...
