im changin my brakes and i take the old pads off and now i cant get the housing around the new pads..??

Your should put your year/model in your signature so we know what car you have.
The likely problem is that the piston needs to be pushed in using a large c-clamp. |

here are detailed pictures and a video on the basics of changing your front brake pads. It sounds like you need to depress the caliper piston. Take a look at picture #7.

Front brake caliper pistons can be pushed in with a big C-clamp.
Rear brake pistons have to be twisted (clockwise) to retract. Thats the handbrake auto-adjust mechanism. Watch the rubber dust boot, so it doesnt wrinkle & tear. DO NOT use a C-clamp to force the pistonsstraight in; youll damage the handbrake mechanism. |
