Busted Crankshaft bolt!!
6 Attachment(s)
Hi, I have a 91 Honda Accord Lx. My crank bolt head snapped off when attempting to remove it and I tried drilling it and using easyouts in MANY different sizes. The damn bolt will NOT come out. So I decided to drill bigger and bigger in hopes it would collapse on itself or become weak enuf to come out but its not working. My bolt is a m14 x 1.25. I currently got the hole bored out with a 3/8 bit and a 29/64 inch bit. problem is both bits became dull and stopped cutting before I got it hollowed. What can I do to fix this crap? I was thinking of looking around for a m14 x 1.25 helicoil kit but what bit would I use for that? and would that work?

I would not suggest a helicoil to fix the problem. Too much force on the pulley and losing the pulley and gears behind it will destroy the valves and possibly have piston damage.
People have been able to remove a broken crank bolt with an easy out. There are some videos on youtube where people can get a bolt unstuck with some heat and a wax candle. |
