RE: a/c problems

This is a tough call to make online, Yes it could just need to be topped off, but if it is low on freon....that freon went somewhere. A person really needs to see the pressure readings and look the car over. When freon leaks out it carries oil with it, leaving a tattle tale oily place.
So whatI would say is to find agood knowledgeableshop, have the system vacumed and recharged with the right amount of freon AND oil, also have flourescent dye added to the oil. [Honda does not endorse flourescent dyes.] This way if no leak is found at the time of the service, yet the charge goes low again it will be much easier to find the leak.
How much will it cost?? I don't even know what year car, what freon, R-12 or R-134?
R-12 is expensive around $40-50 a pound; 134 not quite so bad.
I'll 'guesstimate' $160 for service freon, oil, and dye.
