Calculating Transmission wear 96' Honda Accord
(96' Honda Accord 250k Miles)
This is probably more of an academic question, than a technical one. I'm wondering if theirs any research or formula out there that can calculate a transmission gear failing at a specific time; based on driving habits, engine type, climate, driving environment and other contributing factors. Does anyone have a line on where I could possibly find such research or formula? Or does anyone know of common transmission failures? Such instances where if one thing was replaced, like a timing mechanism, the failure of the transmission could have been prevented. |
I haven't seen anything like that. Transmission wear will not be related to engine timing. The 94-97 automatic transmissions lasted a long time. I think the most important thing is to change the transmission fluid with Honda ATF at the proper intervals.

There is no such timeline. Because there is an infinite amount of variables that cause mechanical wear.
Only way to tell wear is take it apart abd take measurements. |
If you are worried about it. Keep the fluid changed, I do mine every third oil change- so @ every 18K. Yes I change my oil @ every 6K based upon the reminder or milage, the book says 7.5K.
Oh, and she turned over 371,800 on the way home tonight :) |
