Car died and i need help...
Hello, my name is Issac and I am a new member to this forum. I have a 1987 honda accord dx. I love my car, but I do need some help. I bought this car for $500 and I was told that there was a screw missing or loose on the distribuator. The guy told me to always make sure that it had oil in it and to try to get that fixed asap. So one day when I was heading to work, I was on the freeway and was in 5th gear going like 65 with the cruise control on, and all of a sudden my car died. I did not know what the hell was going on with it. so I put the car in Nuetral and got off the free way. I pulled over and tried to start my car and it started right up. I started to drive again and it shut off again. At this point I knew that something was wrong. Again I started my car again and I started driving and all of a Sudden it started knocking. I took it home and parked it. I do not know what the hell is wrong with it and I need to get it fixed does anybody have any suggestions? Please PM me if you do..
Thanks DxRacr |
RE: Car died and i need help...
Did you check if you actaully had oil when the car shut down? check your battery cables and make sure averything is correct. If it doesnt start you threw a rod. Check all electrical connectors.. bad injector? who knows.. just do an inspection on it....

What do you mean by "knocking"?
Your other symptoms sound not unlike what my car had as it's 'ignitor' was dieing. The ingnitor is a plastic magic box that lives inside the distributor, but they do tend to fail after a long mileage. I suggest you have an auto electrician check it out. If the ignitor turns out to be fried, then also have your spark plug lead resistance checked because as leads get old their resistance to electric flow increases, and this causes the ignitor to run hot which kills it. Even if the ignitor isn't the problem, it's a good idea to check the lead resistance if you're uncertain how old the leads might be. |
RE: Car died and i need help...
if he's talking about a screw and distributor in the same sentence he possibly meant the distributor rotor screw. it's what holds the rotor to the distributor. if the rotor is loose it may be scrapping around the inside of the distributor cap. remove the cap and inspect.
keep in mind i have no idea what your problem is and this based on the info provided. |
