Car only starts sometimes

A co-worker of mine recently purchased a fairly clean 2000 Accord v-6 automatic coupe that has around 130,000 miles on it. About a week after she bought it, it wouldn't start. She had it transported to the local Honda dealership, and of course when they took it off of the transporter it fired right up. They went ahead and ran diagnostics on it and the only thing they could find that was wrong was a leaky power steering pump. So they fixed that, charged her five hundred dollars and sent her on her way. She drove the car for two days and then it wouldn't start again! It does turn over just doesn't start. Anyone have any idea where to start?

Nice flowchart for one of the common problems:

Hey Roader, I think you can post those links directly. They appear in some of DIY threads. I used to think same thing and was told I could post them directly.

OP, Usually this is missing fuel pressure and most likely culprit is Main Fuel Relay (MFR). Lack of fuel delivery can be easily confirmed by listening closely in quiet car when keyswitch is turned to On position. You should hear a couple clicks from under the dash, and fuel pump in fuel tank buzz gently for 3 secs or so and go Off.

If you hear dead silence, suspect the MFR. If you hear under-dash clicks, but no fuel pump, it may be an intermittent fuel pump. I had this condition on my 94EX and it responded to repeated on/off/on/off... to kick-start the fuel pump.

good luck

Huh. I thought only hondaaccordforum links should be directly posted. Are other sites OK?
