engine missfire
96 Accord 2.2 Vtec
This is strange. My baby has developed a strange juddery missfire between 2500 and 2800 rpm. It does it at the same rpm in all five gears. It starts first time every time and idles spot on, up to 2500rpm and once through 2800rpm it drives fine. The engine management light isn't showing a fault and I'm stumped. I've changed the plugs and it's no different and i'm looking towards maybe leads, dissy cap next, unless anyone has a better idea of where to start looking.
I'd appreciate any help.
Cheers
Dave

RE: engine missfire
EGR system can cause a misfire or hesitation due to partially plugged EG port into the manifold. In earlier models, this happened at lower rpm, ~1800-2000.
To see if this is your problem, I would temporarily disable the EGR valve by removing the vacuum line to the EGR valve. Note, this may set a code which will need to be cleared since EGR will be commanded to open, and won't which ECU will detect from a sensor on the EGR. If EGR blockage is causing the miss, the miss should stop when you disable the EGR valve. Fix is to clean the EGR port.
good luck

RE: engine missfire
Thanx for the advice guys, you led me straight to the fault which is the egr valve. I'm running with vacuum pipe disconnected and is fine, I will clean it out over the weekend. The new plugs and leads can't do anyharm either.

Try the following link for guidance on cleaning your EGR ports, passages, etc. This is for an Accord w/ same engine.
