Check engine light with codes P0498 p0420 p0223 p0123
 

I was driving home in my 2007 accord 2.4L and a check engine light popped up and it had all the codes, P0498 p0420 p0223 p0123 it’s running fine so it’s nothing major but I didn’t expect to get so many codes all at once. Any ideas on what could be the problem?

P0223 and p0123 deal with the throttle body. P0498 is the evap system that traps gasoline vapors from you gas tank. P0420 is the catalytic converter.

It is strange that all came up when you checked for codes. I'd probably stop by a parts store and have them clear the codes, or clear them yourself if you have a scanner.

If at the parts store, just have them test the battery and alternator, because low voltage in the vehicle can cause strange unrelated things to happen.

Also, have you had any recent work done to the car or any other issues?

I just fixed my starter and replaced my battery I’ve been having some electrical issues, my radio and climate controls dim and brighten regularly and my power steering has stopped working for a few turns here and there, usually when it’s raining but I assume that’s just my power steering pump going out oh and I forgot to add I smell fuel/exhaust every once in a while when I drive my car, post the check engine lights

I'd probably disconnect the battery and clean all ends of both battery cables. Also clean the connection at the alternator with the battery disconnected.

When tightening the battery posts, use a 10mm deep socket to tighten down the clamps. I used a 10mm wrench one time and the clamp wasn't tightened enough.

Are the lights still dimming with the new battery?

Yes they are I figured I just had some funky wiring somewhere. Do you think that could be effecting those emission codes?

Low voltage can throw off the sensors, so solve the wiring/voltage problem first. Use a volt meter to see what your battery voltage is when engine running, It should be >13.3V.

My obd says it’s getting 13.8-14 volts

OBD is probably reading at the ECU, but you could still have a battery cable issue where you have a weak connection to the frame on the negative terminal.

It would be more thorough to put a volt meter on the battery and see if there is a difference.
