check engine lite on

I took my 97 Honda Accord to Auto Zone last night, got a code P1457. It is DX model with 2.2 L engine and automatic transmission. So what is the problem? How can I fix it? Thanks!

The most common issue for that code is not tightening down your gas cap but it could also pertain to your EVAP Control Canister. Have you fueled up recently?

A loose gas cap would throw P1456. P1457 is an EVAP system leak in the canister part of the system - not the gas tank.

In a 6th-gen Accord the most common reason for P1457 is a bad canister vent-shut valve, but there's a good handful of other things that can cause it. I guess it would be similar but not exactly the same for 1997.

It was in body shop for two weeks before the check engine light turned on and stayed on. I'll try to put newgas in anderase the code, then see what happens. Also, I'll check the parts around the canister this weekend. Thanks for the replies.

Where was the body work? The 'canister' part of the EVAP system includes the vapor line up to the engine compartment as well as the EVAP purge valve (maybe mounted on the firewall).

The EVAP codes take a few driving cycles before they set. So if you clear the codeit may not come back fora few days.

unless you see an obvious hose broken or unplugged,, i would take it to a shop that specializes on Hondas or the Dealer and have it properly diagnosed ,, too many components could cause code p-1457 ,
unless you want to start replacing parts and hiope for the best ...
I would chk the area where the body shop worked at,, might be a hose unhooked ..

But like Jim says . clear the code, and drive it ,,

The body work was done on the driver's sidedoor. I checked the canister which is mounted onthe passenger side of the wall in engine compartment. I did not see any loose or broken hoses. I'll try totighten up the gas cap first, maybe replace it with a new one, andthendrive for awhile. If the problem stillnot go away, I'll take it to dealer for repair.

even after you tighten the gas cap. you need to reset the ECU ( clear the code ) go to our DIY section there is a post on how to clear ECU .. once cleared drive it and hopefully lite will not come on again
