Chirping noise when accelerating/shifting
 

I recently bought a 2004 accord v6/6-speed and the is a chirping sound when i accelerate until about 3k rpm in every gear and then it stops when i go over 3k. It also makes the same sound when i shift gears. It makes the sound even when the car is idling and i am just shifting to any gear. I talked to the previous owner and they said that the serpentine belt was changed before. The car has 95000 miles. The belt doesn't seem to loose, any suggestions appreciated.

Sounds are tough to diagnose over the web.

Have someone inside the car shift gears while the car is idling to reproduce the sound. Open the hood and try to find the general location of the sound.

If if is coming from the belt area, spray WD-40 on the center of a pulley and see if the sound disappears.

well when i was looking for it, it decided not to make any sound. It could be possible the my belt could be a little loose, but not loose enough to make a loud squealing. It seems like the belt slips a tiny bit when i shift to make the small squeaking sounds.

I think the V6 has an automatic tensioner. Take a look in the owner's manual, because there should be some kind of gauge to indicate if the belt has stretched too much.

I does have an automatic tensioner, and i cant find anything in the manual about the belt.

Well i replaced the belt and it still makes a quiet chirping noise, when i accelerate between between 2k and 4k rpm. It also chirps when i am coasting while the clutch pressed in and i am just going through the different gears. It makes quick chirp sound as soon as goes into any gear. I have put wd-40 on the pullies and it sill makes the sound

clutch may be slipping

It might be a bad idler bearing in the tensioner or weak tension spring allowing belt to loosen during abrupt rpm changes (shifts). Suggest attempting to confirm the noise is coming from accessory belt/tensioner by causing the sound w/ emergency brake firmly on and foot brake held by trusty partner. Listen carefully for the noise. A short length of tube may be necessary to pinpoint the noise. VERY CAREFUL w/ the tube around the belt and spinning wheels!

Well it has been almost three years, 108,000 miles and the sound has not gone away. I thought it was something with the clutch, so i just changed my transmission fluid to see if the would solve the sound and it is still there. I have a timing belt kit coming in a few days and i am going to change the auto tensioner while in the process. Hopefully that will stop the sound.
