Continous O2 sensor problem
I just bought my first Honda, a 1993, Accord, 4 cyl., automatic, with 300K miles. The guy I got it from explained it has an O2 sensor problem that none of the mechanics, he has taken it to, can solve. The check engine light comes on, the car starts to run rough for a short while and then smooth's out again. The code says it's a bad O2 sensor. The first time he replaced it with an after market one. The check engine light went out and the car ran fine again, but only for a couple of weeks. The same scenario occurred and this time he replaced it with an NGK sensor. The process started all over again. This time he replaced it with another recommended sensor. The check engine again came on after about a month. The light can come on anytime within 2 to 5 weeks. It usually happens just after he starts driving the car. The light comes on, it runs rough and then when it fully warms up, it runs fine again. Check engine light stays on until the sensor is replaced. Other than this problem, the car runs nice, shifts fine, no smoke out the tail pipe, good acceleration. Hopefully some one has had this problem and knows the answer.
