Coolant Capacity
Hey Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone can help me out with a real simple question. I'm just wondering what the coolant capacity was for the V6 Accords before and after they implemented the use of the integrated exhaust manifold into the head. Just curious because these integrated exhaust manifolds are water cooled...so I would assume that more coolant and perhaps a larger radiator would be required to handle the cooling needed to keep the aluminum exhaust manifolds below the normal 700-1,000 degrees celcius that a typical exhaust manifold would see. So anyway, simple question is, did the coolant capacity change? If so, by how much? Any difference in the radiators between those years? Thanks! 5.0L Miata |

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure someone will be along pretty soon to answer your question, unfortunatly I myself don't know off the top of my head

A Miata Monster, eh? Cool!
Sorry I don't have the infomation either but Welcome! |
RE: Coolant Capacity
what year cars are you comparing ??

RE: Coolant Capacity
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the welcome and yes the Miata is a Monster! I think the last year that the V6 Accords used an exhaust manifold that was bolted to the head was in 2002? So I think a comparison of 2002 vs. 2006 would do the trick. Someone please correct me if I have my model years mixed up. Thanks again! |
RE: Coolant Capacity
2002 accord v6......
total capacity,,( include, radiator, engine, heater core, reservoir ). ( 7.5 liter =1.98 gallon ) coolant change only ( 5.6 liter =1.48 gallon ) 2006 accord v6.... total capacity ,, manual tranny ( 8.2 liters =2.17 gallon ) auto tranny (8.4 liters =2.22 gallons) collant change , including the reservoir manual tranny ( 6.6 liters = 1.74 gallons ) auto tranny ( 6.7 liters = 1.77 gallons ) |
RE: Coolant Capacity
So the difference is close to one liter of coolant. Hmm not bad considering the heat that would have to be removed from those integrated exhaust manifolds. Great, thanks for the info!
