crank pulley
 

I'm finishing up a timing belt with all the trimmings- thanks to all the great help and info on this forum- and I'm not sure if this crankshaft pulley I have is going to work O.K. We knocked a small chunk out while removing the crank pulley bolt. My son says this won't make any difference and I'm not sure. Any opinions or experience with something like this?

I would think that you'd be ok... there is always the possibility that it'd give you a minor wobble and take out a bearing... If you have the time I'd just go to www.spaldings.com (junkyard) and order another one or go to a local junk yard and get one... or upgrade it with an aem or unorthodox racing lightweight pulley... But I personally have never delt with this so I'm just speculating, chances are you'd be fine but if you've got the time I don't think it'd cost to much or take that long to replace it so why risk it?

Hard to tell from the picture, but I think what's important is whether any sharp edges from the fracture are gonna chew up the belt as it spins.

The missing part looks pretty small & close to the center so balancing is probably OK.

thanks guys- I'll pick one up from a junkyard and put in on soon. Right now I'm anxious to see how the car runs. We only had in 3 or 4 days before the oil seal blew. Yes, this 1994 had never had the retainer upgrade put on.

Smooth off the surface that will contact the P/S belt with a triangle file, then run it.
I've seen this type of damage many times and it doesn't cause any problems
