crank shaft pulley
hey,,,i just got a light weight crankshaft pulley..for my 99 accord ex....2.3.......my question is ...will i damage my motor?...please help

There is no reason that it would damage anything, it's just a light weight pulley and if it's for your engine then it will be okay..:)

The aftermarket pulley don’t have the rubber damper like the OE ones have witch dampens vibrations. They like to eat up main bearings and oil pumps. IMPO it’s not worth getting one b/c you will have to do repairs in the near future b/c of the pulley and you won’t even notice the diff. If you really want to free up some lost power do a power steering delete. |
After researching this further, I stand corrected on this subject.
Thanks for setting me right.. Angelo:) |
so why couldnt i just use the old rubber damper?....or will it not fit for the new pulley?

The rubber dampener is part of the pulley. If you're not paying attention, you don't even realize it's a layer of hard-ish rubber. It separates the "hub" of the pulley from the pulley's outer rim.

thanks,,,,well looks like i am skipping this mod!!...ill just resell the pulley,,,thank you all for the info....i just dont wanna damage my motor!!

What are the chances that an after market crank pulley, without the rubber damper, will damage main bearings and oil pump? Is it guaranteed to happen, every time?
If a crank pulley without a rubber damper is installed (in a 96 Accord) how long does it take (how many miles) for it to damage main bearings and oil pump? |
