Dinging inside the car won't stop

Hi everyone. I am purchasing a 1989 Accord LXi from a friend, but theres a problem with it that I need help with. The dinging sound that indicates that a door is open wont stop, even when all of the doors are firmly closed. It just keeps dinging and dinging the whole time the car is on, and the friend I'm buying it from says he can't figure out what the problem is. He's tried pretty much everything he knows about short of cutting the wire to the speaker which makes that noise (which he would do, if he knew where it was located). Can you help? I'm even willing to snip the speaker wire if you know where the speaker is.

Thanks!

RE: Dinging inside the car won't stop

It's likely one of the door switches is damaged causing the door open signal. In my cars it can also be caused by the key in the ignition, so don't rule out a faulty key insertion switch.

If it's caused by a door open. the overhead light should be on permanently also. Is this the case? I would try to manually operate each door switch to see if perhaps the switch is simply mispositioned or too loose to be properly closed by door. I think you may see some physical damage at one of the switches. If not, you'll need to remove each switch and test for short/open function. If all door switches are functional, then key insertion switch is faulty.

good luck

Well, not meaning to step on any toes;
The switch for the dome lamp is in the door post.
The switch for the dinger is in the door Latch assy in side the door
The chime is locatedbehind the knee panel to the right of the steering column, it can be unplugged.

Couldnt it also be the seatbelt buckle microswitch?
