Disposal of 2 cycle gasoline

My chainsaw requires fresh 2 cycle fuel (gas plus 1:50 oil). I mix it in 1 gallon quantities. Is it OK to dispose of "old" 2 cycle engine fuel by adding it to my 2009 Accord tank? My chainsaw expert, who does NOT pay for my car maintenance, says it's OK to do it. Sounds like very little oil in a lot of gas.

Thanks,

Chris

Don't do it!

I tried to dispose of 2-cycle (50:1) outboard fuel mix by burning in my lawnmower. It ran OK until the valves began to stick. I had to pull the cylinder head and clean the valve stems and valve seats. Not fun. I eventually mixed old mix w/ new mix and burnt this in outboard engine w/o problems.

good luck

I work at a fire department. Every 6 months, we wax the vehicles and also change any gas cans, with 2 cycle gas for fresh fuel that we use for chain saws and such. The old fuel gets dumped in the utility pickup truck or the Chief's Expedition. One gallon in 14 - 20 some gallons ain't gonna hurt anything. Putting it (straight) in a lawn mower may be a different subject. Dump it in the gas tank...full if posible.

Hmmm.... put it in your brand new 09 Accord or bring it to hazardous waste... sounds like the latter would cause less of a headache in the long run

Keep it around... gas makes an excellent degreaser or fire starter (in small amounts)

And YOU're saying this to a guy who works for a fire department...

I've heard of lots of people who put it in the gas tank, but highly diluted. Maybe even 1/3 or 1/4 gallon in a full tank. Surely your car goes thru more than one tank in a year?

i always dump my old smowmobile gas into my 3 wheeler when i drain it in the spring. my old sled uses 20:1 and the only thing i ever have to do is torch the spark plug after going thru a tankful of that in the old atc 110. but i wont put it in my 91 accord, not just because it has oil mixed in, but because its old gas. it probably wouldn't cause any problems if you only put in a little at a time in an almost full tank, but i wouldnt take the chance cause i rely on my car alot. and i would never do that to an 09 accord.
