draining ac cooling system

is there a way to drain the existing r-134 and refill it?

Tek310 05-27-2011 09:48 PM

i know how the ac system works. its just not cooling when its super hot outside. i put a gauge on it, says its at the top of full charge. fins on condenser are clean. no water leaks. fans work. compressor clutch engages. belt does not slip.

gotta be old refrigerant. 16 years old to be precise. 192,000 miles.

TEK-Read about adjusting the blend door...works wonders, trust me.

I have read over my Haynes manual over and over and I never read anything about about adjusting the blend door. Anything beyond adding r134 to the system it tells you to take it to a shop.

old ,, has nothing to do with it,, it is not like engine oil that needs to be replaced so often......it could be a little low on freon

did you chk the heater cable adjustment?? also chk the knob make sure that it is not broken keeping heater valve cable from going to cold all the way

if all ok,,, i would evac and recharge, measure the freon that you ( or shop ) take out so you know if system was low,, if it was low i would put dye into the system to chk for a possible leak
